 Best Practice and New Initiatives

Major Initiatives taken by the Department in the recent past

  • Opening of New ITIs: Govt. notification in respect of 4 new ITIs at Tikkar in Shimla District, Bhadrota and Sandhole in District Mandi and Ghumarwin in district Bilaspur has been issued (27.7.2010) with 5 trades in each ITIs along with 63 posts. 2 ITIs at Tikkar and Badhrota have been made functional from the current session 2010-2011.  Remaining 2 ITIs at Ghumarwin and Sandhole shall be made operational from the next year.

  • Establishment of H.P. Technical University at Hamirpur: The Govt. has established the H.P. Technical University at Hamirpur, which will start functioning from the academic session 2011-12.

  • Starting of Additional Courses in JN Govt. Engg. College Sundernagar: Two new B.Tech courses in Electronics & Communication Engineering and Civil Engineering with an intake of 60 students each have been started from the current academic session i.e. 2010-11. Besides, intake capacity of existing B.Tech. courses of Mechanical Engineering and Textile Engineering has been increased from 40 to 60 students from the current academic session.

  • Tuition Fee Waiver scheme:  As per AICTE guidelines the scheme has been implemented in Govt. Engineering/Pharmacy Colleges and Polytechnics.

  • Necessary curriculum of 6 months training programme has been designed/developed for producing skilled and semiskilled man power for carrying out regular operation, repair and maintenance of mini/micro hydel projects.

  • Every student of ITI is being given the orientation of computer and internet.

 Future Plan of the Department

  • An Institute of Engineering & Technology at Pragatinagar, Distt. Shimla is to be established in collaboration with SJVNL. The SJVNL has deposited the funds of Rs. 9.44 lakh on account of preparation of DPR by Ed-CIL New Delhi. Joint inspection of the site has been conducted by Ed-CIL, SJVNL and departmental officers on dated 07.10.2010. The land alongwith built up structure have been transferred in the name of Technical Education Department. The DPRs of the institute is under process wit Ed.CIL.

  • An Engineering College on aspects related to Hydro Power is to be established in Bilaspur Distt. It was decided that NHPC and NTPC would jointly establish the same, which will provide latest specialized course/ training in the field of Hydro Power Technology. For this purpose land has been identified at Village-Bandla and transferred in the name of Technical Education Department.

  • Five new Polytechnics in the left out Districts of Sirmour, Bilaspur, Kullu, Lahaul & Spiti and Kinnaur shall be opened in the near future for which         Rs. 10.12 crore has been released by the MHRD, GOI. The Govt. notification for opening of new polytechnic in Sirmour Districts from 2011-12 has been issued. The construction work of polytechnic building has been assigned to BSNL, the estimate of the building has been received and the same is being examined. The land transfer cases of other four districts has been discussed in the proceeding para.

  • All Polytechnics should have at least five courses. Additional courses shall be started in those Polytechnics where number of courses is less than five. Steps are being taken to ensure that additional courses are started from the next academic session.

  • The Department proposes to start B. Tech. Chemical Engineering by replacing the existing B.Tech. Textile Engineering in JN. Govt. Engineering College Sundernagar. In addition, diploma courses in Chemical Engineering and Polymer Engineering will be started at Govt. Polytechnic Sundernagar by replacing the existing Architectural Assistantship course to other Polytechnic.  

  • Modular Employable Skill (MES) shall be started in 17 more ITIs in the State so that un-organized sector/youths may be given employment in the industrial/power sectors.

  • Instructor Training Wing (ITW) shall be established at Nalagarh under VTIP scheme with World Bank assistance.

  • All ITIs have been made co-educational.

  • Regional Vocational Training Institute (RVTI) for women shall be established under PPP mode. Matter is under process with DGE&T.

  • Advance Training Institute (ATI) shall be established under PPP mode. Matter is under process with DGE&T.
