A nation's greatest renewable resource is its human resource. The
most precious asset is not what gets reflected in our budget
but the brain of our people. India may lack in its economic terms,
but it is rich in intellect, and skill and the spirit of enterprise
that's why Indians are now among the forerunners entrepreneurs in
the world. The Indian professionals are the most wanted throughout
the world and have an edge over other nationals. These capabilities
have been developed by young Indians by deep self-study and profound
devotion, which distinguishes them from rest of the world.
Education has been one of State patronage and public policy from
time immemorial. The State has neither been as indifferent spectator
nor an autocrat. Within a broad framework society has been free to
provide education for trade, commerce and industry and also arts.
Education is manifestation of the perfection, which already exists,
in every human being. Swami Vivekananda once said
"The very
essence of education is concentration of mind not the collecting of
facts".
We must have life-building, man making character making and
assimilation of knowledge. The deprivation of quality continues to
be the worst aspect of backwardness and under development I believe
education is the only panacea for all evils in our society. It is
the only enduring means of empowerment , of instilling
self-confidence, and pride in oneself. Education has been called the
technique of transmitting civilization. While doing so it has to
perform two main functions: it must enlighten the understanding and
it must enrich the character.
What we need today more than anything else is moral leadership
founded on courage, intellectual integrity and a sense of values. In
the present day scenario with materialism and commercialization
dominating every aspect of daily life, intellectual integrity has
become a rate commodity. What is needed is the resolute courage to
stand up and be counted in support of public policy, which is
popular and need based.
A nation cannot live by the GDP alone. The human resource is the
most important resource for any nation. Unfortunately our country
has many good people but few good are thinkers. In our insatiable
desire to succeed, we join the rat race and forget human values.
Challenges are before us and we have to accept them and try to meet
them by effective policy making and time-bound action plan, with a
practical vision.
